we made a quick stop at the grocery store on the way home from other errands on thursday. it is just a tiny store and we just needed a few fruits and veggies they had on sale. it was snack time, but silly me thought elijah would be ok for a few more minutes. i could not have been more wrong! as i was trying to round up some green beans, he grabbed a handful and tried to get them in his mouth (raw and unwashed, mind you). so being the smart, laid back, non-fussing mommy that i try to be ;), i rescued the green beans and rolled him out of reach. what i had not considered were the deliciously ripe tomatoes, which mr. speedy got a hold of and took a great big bite out of before i could stop him (unwashed). so, still trying to maintain control i took the rest of the tomato (ignored out need for beans and put them back on the stand), put it in the rear of the cart, and quickly made my way to the check-out. he was a wild man, looking for anything to devour by the time we made it to the check-out. i offered with apologies to pay for the remaining tomato, but the cashier graciously told me not to bother. he then started peeling the sticker off and offered to let eli eat the rest of it right then (he obviously did not have kids because i had to remind him it had not been washed). so he suggested a banana. A+ for the cashier! even though elijah doesn't love bananas, he ate 3/4 of it right then and was amazed that he could eat it right out of the peel. my camera was sadly at home, i wish this could have been documented in photos, becuase it honestly would have been worth 1,000 words. i did document the damage once we returned home.
